I just got home a few minutes ago. Spec Pro was canceled today so the only reason I went to school was for the EJT GA. I studied at the library afterwards for my 7:30 am Loc Gov tom. This means that I have to pull an all-nighter just to finish tomorrow’s assignment (considering that I almost botched last weeks recitation). And while I was studying in the library a while ago listening to Hillsong Kids new album Tell the World this two-liner just came out of nowhere:

For He decorates the night

And make the stars shine with light

Out of Context

Classes were canceled today and early this morning I woke up with two choices in front of me: (a) be the dutiful and alma-mater loving UP student and attend the kick-off for the centennial celebrations or (b) stay at home and do stuff. The choice was rather easy for me being the homebody that I am.

Today’s Daily Bread bible reference is Phil. 1 and the title of the devotional is silent witness. However, the Lord just led me to focus on verses 9-11 which say:

And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.

The more we really come to know God the more we love Him.

After lunch I was faced with another decision again: slack-off or study the medjur assignment. I chose the latter and now that I’m relaxing after cleaning my room and the 2nd floor bathroom there’s no tinge of guilt: I did my job.. it’s now time to relax:)

If you are wondering what’s the relation of the title of my blogpost then let me dispel the mystery: there’s none! I initially wanted to post the super-funny pronouncement of the Supreme Court which I read in the assignment today however when I started typing I was too lazy to get the cases so I ended up with this what-i-did-thus-far type of post :)

Geekazoid!

It’s 1:12 am I’m trying to install Ubuntu Linux in my dad’s very old laptop :) This might be some strange cellular reaction to EDSA dust particles ( I waited 1.5 hours just to get a ride home).

I just got a copy of Ableton Suite and without reading the manuals I just goofed around with the factory clips and made these two chill-ax tracks. Enjoy :)

Mopping made me a better man

31 Dec 2007 In: In Him, Musings

We had a great New Year’s eve dinner tonight. Much to our surprise, we realized that we don’t eat as much as we previously did. Of course, the ham with pineapple glaze was the star of the night with daddy’s hot chocolate concoction a close second. Oz attempted to copy Yellow Cab’s Charlie Chan Chicken Pasta but sadly failed because Mom does not want put to put chili (an essential ingredient) into the mix because my Dad does not like spicy food. We also had Nido Oriental soup, brownies and sparkling grape juice. After a couple of minutes and some funny dinner conversation, we were all full. But since Yolly went on a date we have to clean up the mess we’ve created.I decided that I’ll do the floor sweeping and mopping.

And after a couple of minutes of mopping the kitchen and the dining room floor I realized how hard janitors work and how tedious their daily routine is. I suddenly understood the genius of GMA 7’s show Kung Ako Ikaw.

But there’s a greater truth that I was reminded as I climbed up the stairs to my room: I was supposed to die, yet He took my place and laid His life for me.

Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him. He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
(Isa 53:1-5)

The truth about wrong inferences

31 Dec 2007 In: Musings

There are people who think they know what a person is doing just by making inferences that have been incorrectly arrived at. Even worse, is when such false inferences are being talked about thereby creating an untrue picture of things. Worse still is when people construe mundane actions and blow them out of proportion, giving them different labels.
The truth about wrong inferences is that they are destructive and unhealthy.

So, as a rule, it is always good to tame the tongue:)

A Single Time

31 Dec 2007 In: His Word, In Him, Magnificent

My brother knows that I have penchant for getting random movies that aren’t worth any couch time. Two weeks ago before leaving for Baguio for our block outing, I got myself some movies which I plan to watch during the Christmas break. So far, I’m doing good: Butterfly Upon a Wheel (Brosnan and Butler) was more than the “kid-gets-kidnapped-then-gets-saved” movie keeping me guessing at every turn and The Brothers Solomon is so full of mindless humor which I so love to keep myself distracted with after a grueling law-school midterm.

The third movie which I just finished is a children’s holiday flick co-produced by Queen Latifah, A Perfect Holiday. What started this blog post, however, was the last few seconds of the film where the “enemy” of Latifah’s angel character admitted his utter defeat and frustration when he shouted to heaven, “why can’t I win just once?”

And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
(Col 2:13-15)

He stripped all the spiritual tyrants in the universe of their sham authority at the Cross and marched them naked through the streets.
(Col 2:15 The Message version)

God is so amazing. He is indeed worthy of our everything.

Wide-eyed wonder

30 Dec 2007 In: Uncategorized

Who are we supposed to be? Every now and then we stumble upon tidbits of knowledge that, at first glance, seem like possible answers to that question. Upon closer scrutiny, however, it would seem that you are chasing the wrong thing. And just when you are about to crash, He comes to the rescue. All that He asks is that we surrender.

It’s the penultimate day of the year and here I am staring at the sky in wide-eyed wonder, realizing for the nth time that apart from Him, I am utterly nothing.

Thank you Lord :) You’re the best.
